FAQs

Here are some of the questions we frequently receive.

Q: I purchased a dollhouse kit at a garage sale and it has a missing piece. What should I do?

A: Look on the box for the name of the manufacturer (e.g. Duracraft). Call the manufacturer; sometimes they will be able to provide the part.

Q: I have a three-year-old grandchild. What kind of dollhouse should I buy for her?

A: A small starter home, like Emily's Farmhouse (see the Ready for Occupancy section), which is well-made and sturdy. Also see the American Barn in the Real Good Toys section.

Q: Do you recommend electrical tape or hard-wiring for my dollhouse?

A: Tape wiring is faster to install. It's also easier to identify and repair a break.

Q: My 12-year-old daughter wants a dollhouse. What would you recommend?

A: Any of the larger Celerity or Real Good Toys dollhouses. The Lady Kristine (Celerity) was recently built for a girl about that age - she finds it fun and easy to work with. You can see the finished Lady Kristine and her proud owner in the Sold! section.

Q: I want a collector's dollhouse to hand down to my children and grandchildren. What should I consider?

A: First, look for a house with multiple large rooms and a unique design that will stand out and stand up to years of decorating and display. Dollhouse Maker and the Lawbre Company create museum-quality dollhouses like the Mariposa or Shadow Cliff (house only). Dollhouse Maker also will work with you on a custom design like the Chestnut Hill, shown in the Limited Edition and One-of-a-Kind Dollhouses.

Q: I love miniatures but I need something very small because I have limited space. What would you recommend?

A:  Consider a 1/2-inch scale dollhouse like The Catherine Ann (see it in the Limited Editions department) or a Roombox like the one-room school house (see it in the new department Roomboxes).
